How I started my new business and what I’ve done so far as a new business owner. Starting a business from a New Business Owner, and begins with a journey from the roots within the soul.
Starting from Scratch
Boy, has this been a wild ride in starting my own business. It has been a crazy roller coaster of emotions. It started with an idea of what I wanted to start my own business in (being an entrepreneur at heart). This is a continuous work in progress but I’m going to share with you how I started my business from scratch. When I say scratch, I really mean scratch.
The (Nervous) Breakdown
It started with a last-minute choice to take a hit and decide at the last minute that all the college courses I had invested in were going to be pointless. Why? Because I knew that I couldn’t commit to a career for 20 to 30 years that I wasn’t passionate about. I didn’t want to be unhappy, bitter, and just “good” at my job enough to just settle. What I wanted was to do something that I was passionate about. I was taking the “safe” route, but I felt it in my heart that I wasn’t put on this earth to do that work. Don’t get me wrong though. I love the job that many make a career and find great enjoyment in doing. I was even good at it… But I know I was doing a disservice to those around me because they weren’t getting the best of me.
I’m Not Smart Enough
My biggest inspiration has been my husband. After over 15 years he is incredibly passionate about the work that he does. I sometimes think he would do it for free if he could. The way he speaks about his work and the way it lights him up is so inspiring. He has the same passion he did in the beginning when you get excited about starting a new job and adventure… He will be graduating with his master’s degree soon and I have to tell you something about this. You see when we first started dating, he was afraid to start college because he didn’t think he was smart enough to succeed. To think back of the moment that he took a chance on himself for just a moment… and now to see how far we have come together… It is incredible to see that his capabilities were ALWAYS there.
He was always this person. the only thing that changed was his mindset. In my household, I believe in trying. If it doesn’t happen that’s ok but at least you know you tried and have no regrets. You should be proud of yourself for taking the first step because that is the scariest step of all. Let’s be honest. I’m sure you or someone you know has felt this way. This is what holds so many people back from pursuing their dreams. You tell yourself you’re too old, or it’s too late, or you’re not smart enough. I swear to you that the minute you decide to do what makes your heart and soul light up on fire with passion, none of these things will be that big of a deal.
Starting a Business
I have so many insecurities and I ramble when I get nervous and walk away thinking, “what the hell were you even talking about?”. Knowing that my insecurities are the number one thing that holds me back is actually encouraging. This is because I know where to put my focus and regroup my mind and thoughts knowing that this is the fear talking. I can’t remember where I’ve heard or read it before but… I repeat to myself… “do it anyway”… even when you’re feeling scared “do it anyway”. I have already found my passion, I know my “why”, and most of all I know that this is what I am meant to do.
First Step in Starting a Business
Its funny because you may assume that when starting a business, you need an idea, money, and a product or service. Let’s be clear this is exactly what you need. However, it’s not the first thing you need. It takes the right mindset. You need to be clear with your vision and direction. You need to be able to accept criticism without giving up or getting upset and if you do; well then the first step is to work on handling rejection and work on that.
These things will not be perfect and may never go away. My anxiety will always be there, but I have learned to cope with it better, and realizing that I can face it without falling apart is a great accomplishment in and of itself. Have you spoken to your worse critic with the best intentions? Allow me to elaborate for a moment… My biggest critic is my mother, and she is also my biggest supporter and cheerleader.I knew that when I was ready with all the answers to all the questions, she might have I was ready to answer. I wanted to go to her first because I knew she wouldn’t agree with me just to spare my feelings.
Meeting With Mom
I also knew my mom would be the last person who would want me to fail. She has pushed me to fight for what I want and not allow anything to stand in my way, even if that means pointing out when I’m standing in my own way (self-sabotage). After all, she haass known me since I was born so when I gave her my well-planned speech of my business plan and what I was truly passionate about, I knew she would be able to validate that this wasn’t some kind of phase or mid-life crisis ha-ha. Her response was amazing because here I am having had spent years getting my degrees and following the “conventional” route, and she was here giving me her blessing. I didn’t have to tell her that this was my passion because she’s always known. This entrepreneurial spirit, and love of all things wellness-related.
The Adventure Begins
My adventure began with going back to school. This time it was certifications and anything I felt I needed to add value to my business. Holistic certifications, Reiki certifications, energy healing certifications, and continuing still during the making of this post. Everything I am learning is intertwined towards my business and client goals. Whatever you don’t know can be learned so you can stop being so scared. I was scared but as I have started to learn it has only given me encouragement to dive deeper. The main purpose at this stage is to educate yourself on everything that will have to do with your business. I realized that I will never stop learning because I will always want to grow and offer my clients the most information I can.
Starting a Business
I have my business license among other permits and licenses and probably some I don’t even need but for the sake of trying to be prepared and a new business owner this is where my journey has led so far. The biggest thing I can share is that asking questions can make you the smartest person in the room. Its all the dumb questions though, all the ones that everyone else is too afraid to ask. This is what I’ve spent months doing, researching, and asking questions. Looking at your city and what is required is the best place to start.
As far as the actual business side, I can say it has definitely been a learning curve but the main thing I have learned is that I would have failed before I begun if I didn’t first focus on my mindset. I needed to face my insecurities and ask myself the tough questions so I wouldn’t be defensive when those close to me would start asking out of love.

The Journey Continues
I had to work on my spirit and emotions (mindset, insecurities, and handling rejection), then on my mind (researching, learning and attaining needed certifications), and now I’m working on my body (practicing what I preach in eating healthy, meditating, exercise, work/life balance, and more…).
The thing about going after what you want is being ready to receive it…
